Ophthalmology Tech - Full Time - Ophthalmology

Assist Ophthalmologist in diagnosing eye diseases and in performing eye surgery.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take patient history and perform preliminary examination of patient.
  • Assist physician with examinations and maintain patient charts.
  • Visual acuity measurement
  • Refractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription)
  • Prepares and maintains examination rooms
  • Maintain stock of ocular medications used during exams including dilation drops and topical anesthetics.
  • Visual field testing
  • Corneal thickness measurement
  • Corneal curvature measurement
  • A and B-scan ultrasonography
  • Corneal topography
  • Assist with contact lens fitting, and patient instruction

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Experience with both contact lenses and glasses.
  • Excellent customer service and sales skills required.
  • Dexterity and technical skills.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School diploma.
  • 1 year of experience.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • No certification required, but Certified Ophthalmic Tech a plus.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

  • Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to medical office setting.
